Cicadence is a project that stemmed from a personal need to reuse bike parts that are usually cast aside. In Portland Oregon, this fad has become extremely popular and many boutique stores carry such items. The difficult part of this project involved designing and marketing Cicadence to stand out from these other recycled lines. This is accomplished in two ways. The first being the quality of the craftsmanship, materials salvaged and the unique history of many of the pieces. Secondly, Cicadence is a way for me to share the beauty of cycling with others, not only through the product itself but by donating 25 percent of the total proceeds to the World Bicycle Relief.
Cicadence is in its beginning stages. After developing some of the initial designs, I spent a while compiling vintage head-badges, Campagnolo brand packaging and lapel pins, leather bar tape, braze ons, and other odds and ends. These items, along with glass beads, silver hardware and other new but vintage inspired details complete the pieces. Currently I am designing packaging and an Etsy page in order to promote the line. Below are some of the packaging design ideas and Etsy banner concepts.
