In Winter We Tell Stories. In Summer We Savor the Sun
In Winter We Tell Stories & In Summer We Savor the Sun (2024) speak to the beauty of the seasons and cycles, the importance of winter rest, the nourishment of the sun, and the sacred connection between humans and the Earth. For a building dedicated to housing students and families, I wanted to bring a sense of wonder and transformation to the space but also provide a moment of reflection for residents and visitors. The works are multilayered, combining the transformative qualities of Salish weaving designs with photographic elements and double-exposure images of the human body and nature. Frame text in my ancestral language txʷəlšucid (Twulshootseed), references the winter and summer months.
All photographs included in these works were taken in Oregon at the following locations: Avery Park & Natural Area, Bald Hill Natural Area, Chip Ross State Park, Mary’s Nature Area, Neskowin Beach, North Riverfront Park, Oak Savanna Trail, Shawala Point, and Wy'east (Mt. Hood National Forest).
Collection: Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR
Commissioned through Oregon’s Percent for Art in Public Places Program, managed by the Oregon Arts Commission.
